Exposaroonie Challenge - Candid Portrait

This week's topic: Candid Portraits

Portrait - a representation of a person, in which the face and its expression is predominant. The intent is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the person. For this reason, in photography a portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position.

Candid photography - best described as unposed and unplanned, immediate and unobtrusive. This is in contrast to classic photography, which includes aspects such as carefully staged portrait photography, landscape photography or
object photography. Candid photography catches moments of life from immersion in it.

This doesn't mean that the person HAS to be looking right at the camera. For some other great examples of portraits, do a flickr search for portraits and peruse the most interesting. Or check out Flickr's Candid Portrait Photography Pool. You want to capture personality or their current emotion.

Also, try checking out some of these tips for taking better candid shots.

You can photograph people of all ages, friends, relatives, or (if you have the nerve, or a trusty zoom lens) strangers.

Check out the entry rules here. Don't forget to leave us a comment, and post your entry to your own personal website or blog as well. We are all about community here, so share the roonie.
